In the last couple of weeks, our team has been pretty busy with lots of things to do. We had some good interviews we had filmed. The last week we did some major editing. We were trying to find the good sound bites and then selecting the best out of those to get a good video.
I learned a lot about editing. I came in a couple of times watching and learning what Jeff and Jermaine were doing. It was interesting how they got a good clip going when they were editing. Jeff and Jermaine helped me figure out how to use the editing tools on Final Cut Pro. They gave me the basics of what I needed to do. At first it was hard to get the video to look as good as it sounded. There were times when the sound bite was good but the video of the interviewee kept jumping because of all the editing done to it. Once I got into it, it was not so bad after all. It just hurts the eyes for a while after looking at footage for more than an hour.
I also learn a lot from filming. I got to broll with the camera and played with the different functions on the camera. It was interesting to see how each button on the camera could change the whole outcome of the footage. Also I learn that when I did the broll, I tried to do the close up shot, mid shot and wide shot. I'm not sure if I did well, but it was fun taking the film. There were times when my arm felt numb when holding the camera. I now know the feeling of holding the camera for at least 30 mins.
For tomorrow, we are going to be presenting the materials we did for Interfaith. I cannot wait to hear the reactions from the classmates to see what they think of the video and if we need to improve on anything. We also did some research on the veterans. It was interesting to see how the lives of being in the military has affected the veterans so much. I never imaged that their life was much harder to adapt after coming out of the military. Hopefully this video we are making will bring more people awareness as well as help these veterans to transition into civilian life. I am glad that there are services like Interfaith out there who are helping these people to transition better into civilian life.
